Whether it’s email marketing, social media messages, or the like, businesses in several different industries like to utilize electronic marketing to communicate with repeat and potential customers. The universal question seems to be when should these messages be sent for maximum response?
My typical consultant’s answer is “It depends.” For some industries the answer may lie in some trial and error. For retail clients I often suggest a few hours before a period when your business normally has excess capacity.
For example, an upscale restaurant might usually be slow from 2 pm to 4 pm after the lunch crowd has left and before happy hour begins. Sending a marketing email or Twitter message mid-morning such as “Join us between 2 pm and 4 pm today for our new Late Executive Lunch Specials” may drive more traffic to the dining room, or even the bar, than in the past.
